VisitNewHarmony is the public facing, tourism-focused website of One New Harmony. One New Harmony is our Indiana Main Street organization and Chamber of Commerce combined. The original Chamber, "New Harmony Business Associates", was incorporated in 1981. Today we have around 70 members who work closely with all the community players to preserve our historic assets and quality of life, stimulate economic vitality, lead regional marketing and promotion, and foster effective collaboration with public and private partners. We are an all volunteer organization that brings over 55,000 visitors to our community of 750 people per year with our special events alone.
We serve visitors to New Harmony. They are primarily from Evansville, the surrounding region, southern Illinois, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Louisville, & Bloomington.
We are a very unique village in the American Midwest that has been home to evolving and inspiring ideas of community for over 300 years. The first peoples of our area were the Shawnee, Miami, and Illinois tribes. In the 1800's two distinctly different European utopian societies settled here in the 1800's, followed by a third transformative period in the mid- and late- 20th century led by philanthropist Jane Blaffer Owen. The cultural and physical legacy of those eras is layers on our Midwest roots to create a welcoming, beautiful, safe, artistic, and inspirational community. The local businesses came together in the 1980's to collectively market the community to visitors and create new annual events to draw visitors.
