Capers Glassporium is a full service kiln-formed glass studio offering classes, demonstrations, workshops, and custom-made glass creations. Also known as fused glass, kiln-formed glass pieces range from functional items, such as spoon rests and garden stakes, to decorative art. In our classes (which typically last two to three hours), students learn about the unique properties of glass and put together a design of their own that is subsequently fired in the kiln for later delivery. In the course of the class, students are taught to cut glass and explore the variety of forms in which it comes. Capers Glassporium also has a gallery that features its fused glass works that can be purchased.
Capers Glassporium serves those living and working in the tri-state area, as well as tourists and guests.
Glass is a fascinating medium. The owners of Capers Glassporium have experimented with glass for decades, beginning with Michael's stint as the glassblower for chemistry lab repairs in high school. Mary Beth and Michael did stained glass work in the late 70s and early 80s, but fused glass won their hearts because of its versatility and the endless options it provides. The studio was created in early 2020 and since that time hundreds of works have been produced. Classes are offered upon request for groups of two or more. It is possible in a short class for students to get an orientation to the world of glass and to put together a fused glass piece. The variety of possibilities for designs is astonishing and individuals can gravitate toward colors and themes that please them most, channeling their creativity into a satisfying finished product.
